Guess what amazing auction find came home yesterday. Yeah... a high-efficiency washer and dryer... but the good stuff - extension cords! Enough to run out to the rabbitry to power the new (heated!) automatic watering system!
This morning brought freezing temperatures when I was out to the shed, but their water was nice and warm coming out of their drinking valves. I unplugged it for now - the water is almost too warm. I'll plug it in at dark when it will start chilling down to near 15 degrees.
The rabbits haven't all figured out how to drink from it. The girls have noticed that there's this thing in the corner that when I touch it, it spills out nice warm water. The boys... a little oblivious.
But the one I'm worried about is Petra - my son's pet Jersey Woolie. She's so small she would have to climb on top of her "Hideout" bed and perch. You know I like to share with you the products that work best in my rabbitry. I've linked on the left side to show you which hideout I use for this little rabbit. I fill the bottom with a handful of fresh grass hay and she's a happy rabbit hanging out in there.
I must have been very, very good this year. I did not expect to be able to have a heated watering system for the rabbits this winter, but with the gifts of a bucket heater, heat tape, and extension cords, the system is complete and working.
